Project “Youth Drive” – Holding a set of panel discussions related to environmental protection in the area of WHC
As part of the project “YOUth drive”, funded by the European Union, in the coming period this month it is planned to hold four panel discussions in the West Herzegovina County. The events will be attended by all relevant stakeholders from the environmental sector, which during the discussion will include all the most important components related to the importance and significance of environmental protection, and for proper waste management. The panelists who will participate in the events are:
Ana Soldo – environmental expert, and assistant director of the Office of the Government of the West Herzegovina County for European Integration for development planning and management and general affairs (presentation of the possibility of using EU funds for environmental protection, planned future strategic documents in WHC on environmental protection, and the importance of such and similar projects in the area of WHC).
Marijana Bubalo – BS in CE of food technology, and the head of the wastewater treatment plant and water laboratory from PE Parkovi, Ljubuški (presentation of the state of water and the County water protection plan; goals and necessary activities for the conservation of water resources).
Vedran Kordić – project officer of Via Dinarica / WWF Adria, the world organization for nature protection (review of the state of the environment locally and globally, and the state of protected areas and the role and importance of the NGO sector in environmental protection)
Zdenko Mandić – expert in environmental protection and Assistant Minister for Physical Planning, Construction and Housing and Communal Services of the West Herzegovina County (presentation of the state of the environment in the County, the biggest shortcomings and opportunities in this sector).
The panels will also present the official website of the “Our Nature” project, which enables the local community and individuals to be actively involved in solving environmental problems.
The project is funded by the European Union in the amount of over 230,000 euros, with the aim of raising awareness among young people about the proper disposal of waste and environmental protection in the cross-border area of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro.
The aim of the project is to actively contribute to the proper management of waste, and work will be done on the protection of waterways in the areas involved in the project activities. In cooperation with schools, the project will primarily affect the awareness of young people, who through their knowledge and action in the future, should influence and act on the awareness of society about the need for environmental protection. Also, a basis for the improvement and refinement of existing legislation in this area will be created, and various information about the project will be exchanged on the launched web platform.
The project “YOUth drive” raising environmental awareness, and initiating concrete actions in the West Herzegovina and the Bay of Kotor County is implemented within the IPA Cross-border Cooperation Program Bosnia and Herzegovina – Montenegro, funded by the European Union.
The project began with the implementation of activities in November 2019, and will last until August 2021. The total value of the project is 279,200 euros.
