Within the cross-border project “Y O U t h  D r i v e – Program for raising awareness on proper waste management and empowering decision makers to take action, which is implemented under the IPA Cross-border  Cooperation Program BiH – Montenegro funded by the European Union, organized the first of three planned trainings for participants and all stakeholders in the area of the Bay of Kotor. The trainings presented the results of a previous analysis on the current situation in the field of waterway pollution, the state of existing waste management facilities, and the number and location of illegal landfills.

Through this analysis, a set of detailed recommendations for legislators will be prepared in the form of a publication, tailored to each area involved in the project. Recommendations will be delivered to municipalities, utility companies, non-governmental organizations dealing with environmental issues.

The statement was given by the project manager, Lucija Kvesić, who stated how important it is for the participants to institutionally understand the importance of this project, as a basis for future applications for funds of the European Union.

The project is implemented within the IPA Cross-border Cooperation Program of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro. It is funded by the European Union in order to raise awareness of young people and the entire community about the importance of proper waste management and environmental protection, both in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro, and a joint partnership agreement on the project was signed on November 15, 2019. . The realization of the project will take place in the period from November 15, 2019 to May 15, 2021. The total value of the project is around 280,000 EUR, of which the European Union has provided around 230,000 EUR.

The project holders are the Association for Development, Environment and Culture EKO ZH from Široki Brijeg (BiH) and the non-governmental organization “Naša Akcija” from Kotor (CG).
