As part of the “YOUth Drive” project, funded by the European Union, bins for the collection of electronic waste have been set up throughout the West Herzegovina County. 160 specialized bins were placed in the Government building, municipal and city buildings, all primary and secondary schools, as well as kindergartens. It is a continuation of project activities with the aim of raising awareness of the need to preserve the environment and empower legislators to act, as well as proper waste management. The project also ensures the systematic collection of electronic waste in the coming period.

The criteria for the selection of locations was the involvement of young people and raising awareness of environmental protection, and the involvement of legislatures in these activities. A total of 320 specialized bins for electronic waste will be placed in the West Herzegovina County and the Bay of Kotor, and waste collection actions will be organized at designated illegal dumps in agreement with the cities and municipalities of the area. Thanks to the project, an analysis of the current situation on the ground was made, on the basis of which recommendations were prepared that will be guidelines for future activities.

Through its activities, the YOU th drive project includes and animates a large number of young people, who will play a key role in preserving the environment in the future. In cooperation with schools, students are introduced to the most common omissions and mistakes in relation to the environment, but also with the opportunities and possibilities for its preservation and restoration.

The project will create a basis for improving and refining existing legislation in this area, and will launch a web platform that will serve to network, promote and disseminate information related to environmental protection and proper waste management.

Raising environmental awareness and initiating concrete actions in the West Herzegovina and Bay of Kotor County is carried out within the project “YOUth drive” through the IPA Cross-border Cooperation Program Bosnia and Herzegovina – Montenegro, funded by the European Union in the amount of over 230,000 euros. The project partners are non-governmental organizations, the Association for Development, Environment and Culture EKO ZH from Široki Brijeg (BiH) as the project holder and Our action, based in Kotor (MN). The project began with the implementation of activities in November 2019, and will last until August 2021.
